This is the story of how the rise of the myth of popular sovereignty provided the perfect opportunity for an ascendant class of intelligentsia to gain power through acts of cultural and ideological ventriloquism. It is the story of the managerial revolution. It tells of how an apparently new class maneuvered itself into power over the last century or so and how it has achieved hegemony in the form that is called here managerial liberalism. The consequences of these events are the social pathologies which we currently endure.
