in 1906, investors set out to create the first north to south transcontinental railroad with the intent to connect Winnipeg, Canada, with Galveston, Texas. Financial problems linked to wars, ship disasters and economic downturns resulted in a 70 mile short line railroad that operated for more than 50 years.
