Tom is invested as an Officer in the Order of Isabel la Catolica, by the King of Spain and was awarded the Order of Don Quijote by Sigma Delta Pi, the National Spanish Honorary Society. He was a founder member of the Cervantes Society of America. He founded Juan de la Cuesta-Hispanic Monographs (a publishing company named after Cervantes' printer), in order to bring important manuscripts dealing mainly with Spanish Golden Age literature to light. This is his first children's book. Jack Davis began his career in the Navy, during World War II, where he did a weekly comic strip called Boondocker for the Navy News. After the war, Jack enrolled in the art program at the University of Georgia, and did illustrations on the side for Coca-Cola, and backgrounds for the Mark Trail comic strip. He was able to continue his studies at the Art Students League in New York, where his talent was noticed by Harvey Kurtzman and William Gaines, who were producing a line of new comic books. Jack fit right in. In 1952, MAD comics was begun, and Jack was a regular contributor. After MAD, Jack branched out. Because, aside from his excellence and cleverness, he worked fast, and he was commissioned 37 times to do covers for TIME magazine. He also did many covers for TV Guide. He has done movie posters, book illustrations, magazine cartoons. Jack was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2003. He also received the National Cartoonists Society Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996 and he received the National Cartoonists Society's Advertising Award for 1980 and their Reuben Award for 2000.
