Emmeline exists in the year 2022, whereas Nicholas is originally from 1898. Unexpectedly, they both time looped to the year 1938 and met in a small Colorado town. Emmeline and Nicholas are equally confused as to how they ended up in 1938. They have different opinions regarding their circumstances, and occasionally butt heads. Even so, 1938 is an unpredictable era for them both, so they are forced to rely on each other to navigate their way through their newfound circumstances. Their close proximity results in a shared romantic attraction. At the same time, they discover a way to return to their original timelines. Will they leave each other's side or take a chance on love? The Nickel Loop is a compelling time-travel romance. I loved the historical elements Nancy Houser-Bluhm weaved into her book. She did an excellent job of bringing history to life. This made me appreciate the many intriguing aspects of American history that I didn't know before. I also loved the time travel element stitched into the plot. It added a sense of mystery and urgency to Emmeline and Nicholas' story. The author did an outstanding job of making the time travel sequences understandable and believable. I think readers will appreciate this aspect the most. Houser-Bluhm perfectly captured the characters' personalities. Emmeline is a confident, headstrong, and highly opinionated young woman, whereas Nicholas is practical and easily impressed by the different advancements in 1938. Yet, their differences in personality and situational approaches added intensity to their romantic connection. I loved every aspect of this novel, and I recommend it to fans of historical romance. Reviewed by Richard Prause for Readers' Favorite Nancy Houser-Bluhm's The Nickel Loop is a romantic tale that follows the journeys of a woman and a man from different eras whose paths converge in 1938. Emmeline travels back in time from 2022, whereas Nicholas travels forward in time from 1898. This unexpected time travel takes them both by surprise. Emmeline is more concerned about her predicament than Nicholas. She worries about the lack of progressive opportunities for women in 1938. Quite the opposite, Nicholas is amazed by the improvements and expansions in 1938 compared to 1898. Emmeline and Nicholas lean on each other for support, causing a budding romance to evolve between them. Nicholas gradually adjusts to 1938, but Emmeline misses her life in 2022. Edmund, a very discerning psychic, believes he can help them return to their respective times. Will Emmeline or Nicholas leave 1938, or will their love keep them together? I enjoyed reading Nancy Houser-Bluhm's exploration of the different eras through Emmeline's and Nicholas' points of view and experiences. Each era meant something different to the main characters and the secondary characters they interacted with. Emmeline viewed 1938 as an oppressive period for women, whereas Nicholas saw 1938 as an era of opportunity. Even though Emmeline was introduced as a strong-willed and uncompromising character in earlier chapters, her interactions with Nicholas and their acquaintances revealed a more vulnerable and relatable side to her. Nevertheless, it was intriguing watching these opposing personalities—Emmeline and Nicholas—let their guard down and warm up to each other. The author did a magnificent job of presenting the differences of each era, such as the language variations, clothing styles, and historical changes. Fans of historical romance will enjoy reading The Nickel Loop.
