Interview with the Author Q - What makes the Story Keeping series so special? A – Probably best to ask other readers. I like the series because Riles brings an honest voice to these wild adventures. He is also incredibly passionate about reading.I love seeing Riles and his siblings work together save happy endings. Q - What age children is the book written for? A - I've heard great things from parents of children 5-7 who read it to their kids, and from parents of kids in the 8-10 or 9-12 range who read it on their own. The books are written at a 3rd grade reading level, introducing age appropriate themes for children 6-8 mixed with just the right amount of humor. Riles tells these stories in a family friendly way. My own "beta-readers" include a 9 year old boy, 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy. Q - What order should I read the books in? A - Each book can stand alone, since each adventure comes from another book. But there is something larger going on. Reading the whole series reveals a number of additional clues. Can you piece the bigger picture together? Book 1: The Night I Became A Hero Book 2: The Night We Met A Dragon This book. Book 3: Secrets beyond the Nile Book 4: Dark Water Pirates Q - Can I use these books for education? A - Absolutely. A number of reviews from teachers suggest it's well paced for 3rd graders. I caught my mom's passion for writing pretty early. The result? A wild imagination.      I write to ignite imagination in my own kids and other readers.
The Story Keeping Series captures the excitement of bedtime stories I remember as a kid. As Riles, Sissie, and Finn jump under the sheets in their bunks, I can picture the quilt on my childhood bed. As they hang on grandpa's every word grandpa, I can see mom or dad at the foot my bed reading to my brother and me.     Grandpa guides and mentors these young heroes, teaching them to save the happy ending - it's the art of story keeping. The twists and turns will "tickle the hair in your ears." Just like they tickled ours so many years ago. How did I end up spinning these tales?       A few standout teachers - Mrs. Orona (4th), Mrs. Avery (11th), and Dr. Joliff (undergrad) - tricked me into thinking I could do anything - especially writing. It's taken years for these stories to move from mind to page. As they do, they grow more - characters choosing their own way.      I loved this partnering - between my own ideas, and the lives characters take on. They live in a world similar to mine - where good and evil battle for the hearts and minds of us all. As the children work to save each book, I learn about their place in this broader battle - to become heroes who make a difference in a broken world.      Like Riles, I want to be a little more heroic when the sun sets.      How about you? Want to be heroic? What's stopping you?     -Aaron (1976- ) --- A R Marshall earned graduate degree
