Presenting. If that one word made your blood run cold and hands sweat, then this book is for you. Presenting has to be one of the most nerve-racking things that we have to deal with in life. The thought of having everyone’s eyes on us as we stand before them, bare and ready to be judged, is something that most people fear. Your hands become clammy and your heart rate picks up. You wonder how you will ever make it through. Will they like what you have to say? What will they think when you take the stage? All these things bounce around in your head as you prepare for the big day. But do you want to know a secret? Even the most confident and experienced speakers get the jitters. Yes! You are not alone in this. It is a normal feeling. While it may seem terrifying and stressful to step in front of a room full of people, by reading this book, you find that there are many ways in which you can relieve that stress and become confident in yourself. You will learn how to take a room by storm and keep the audience engaged, hanging on to your every word until the very end. You will understand the ins and outs of making a successful and interesting presentation that impresses and sticks with others even after you have long finished your presentation. Techniques in this book have worked for me through a 43 year career in my community service journey and will be effective for you as well. The Presenter's Dilemma Which line stood out from all the others in the book? Opportunity is missed by most people because it was dressed in overalls and looks like work. General Summary for Context: The book is a primer on making presentations. Most people face anxiety, doubt and other debilitating emotions that mar the way they present. The book teaches a lot of techniques to manage these issues, as well as how to make an excellent presentation in general. Concise Review: A brief and concise book written to elucidate the art of making great presentations. Presenting skills, handling challenges before and during the presentation and other interesting nuggets of information are presented by the author in a beautiful manner. Generally, most people have anxiety, butterflies in their stomach and the heebie-jeebies in these situations. The book expounds on these areas and gives numerous techniques to resolve these issues and manage your mental state, emotions and frame of mind. The author focuses on the presenter's skills and offers various techniques to build one's competency to become a great presenter. General thoughts on the Novel: Clear and unambiguous, with the focus on building competency, the author offers many techniques, numerous examples and shares his personal experience in building the same skills. The themes and categories are neatly outlined and classified, so you can quickly jump to any section for reference. This is a simple, easy to understand guide, with practical lessons that I believe I will use even outside of the presenting scenario. I liked it and would like to recommend it for first time presenters and anyone who would like to up their game in that area. Supportive Critique: After the COVID pandemic it may be a good idea to update your book with additional advice on presenting remotely, which would have great value for remote and hybrid work.
