Defeating the Red Queen proved a monumental task that Guinevere Reed and Graham Albion managed to accomplish but not without consequences. Bound to Guinevere's dragon as a consort, Graham has lost the trust of the splinter group within the Council of Excalibur making him and Guinevere targets for elimination. Unwilling to reveal himself as the leader of the group and a traitor to the Council, Chancellor Lamarck releases a notorious murderer on to the streets of Dallas. Red Lynx is determined to pursue a personal vendetta against Guinevere putting her and everyone around her in danger. After a failed assassination attempt during the formal announcement of her partnership to Graham nearly kills all those dearest to Guinevere, she and Graham are forced to discard their identities as slayers to search for Red Lynx in the Dallas underground. Losing the protection of the House of Camelot while undercover makes the pair vulnerable to Chancellor Lamarck's machinations. To complicate matters, Guinevere's dragon continues to evolve as a separate being with her own desires and intentions. Contrary to Guinevere's declaration to give the dragons freedom from a monarchy, her dragon is determined to claim what is hers by right of subjugation – the title of Queen of Dragons.
