All Michael Hollister wanted was death. What he got was time travel.Convicted of murder, and with nothing left to live for, Michael commits suicide in his jail cell in 1977, then opens his eyes in 1966, in his eight year old body, all memories of his previous life intact. His first thoughts are of the dark intentions of his father. When the man who raised him once again tries to do the unthinkable, Michael has a chance to right his childhood's greatest wrong. But, can he do that without becoming a killer all over again? The Redemption of Michael Hollister is the second in the Middle Falls Time Travel series, but is a complete novel that can be read without having read the first book - The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver. "This novel rings true. Sequences range from the ugly to the hilarious... Michael winds up as a good guy, and it's a route I suspect many troubled children follow. I recommend this novel; out if its ugliness finally emerges some beauty." Piers Anthony, NYT Bestseller, and author of the Xanth and Incarnations of Immortality series. ***"The author does a masterful job of taking a character that was irredeemable to those who read the prior book and somehow redeeming him. Not excusing him for the crimes he committed in his past life, but helping us to understand how he got to that point and drawing us into the story so that we were pulling for Michael to find a different path for his life the next time around." Five Stars.Big Al, Big Al's Books and Pals***"It's a challenge finding empathy for a killer, and anyone familiar with the first book might resist the notion that such empathy could be directed towards Michael, but prior readers and newcomers alike will find this focus offers much food for thought and a surprising twist as the killer is portrayed as a very likable human being struggling against all odds. " It's especially notable to find that a character so fiendish in the first book could find redemption not only in himself but in the eyes of readers in the second book; but that's one of the many surprises of The Redemption of Michael Hollister , which offers a satisfyingly different perspective on a boy's evolution and efforts to survive his world." Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Reviews The Redemption of Michael Hollister was a difficult book for me to write, but I am so glad I did. Michael was originally the antagonist (and future serial killer) in the first book in the Middle Falls time travel series, called The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver. As such, he was an unpleasant, lost young man, and I was not at all unhappy to be done with him at the end of that book. However, Michael Hollister was not done with me. As I was falling asleep at night, or walking my dogs, Michael would whisper, "There's more to me. You're missing who I really am." I honestly didn't want to write an entire book from his perspective, but I felt compelled. It's the way it is with certain characters. They take over and won't be shoved off-stage. The biggest problem was, the title, featuring the word redemption, was so strong in my head, I knew that was the story arc I needed to follow, and I had no idea how he could be redeemed. So, with no road map, no idea of a possible plot, I just began to write, listening to Michael at each turn. He told me his story, and I did my best to write it down. I believe it is the best thing I've ever written. I love the idea of time travel, and second chances, and finding redemption where it appears none is possible. All those elements are present in this story. Michael, deeply flawed, trusting no one, but constantly seeking to become a better person, has become the character I admire the most.
