Back in the late 1960’s, I took an interest in our Runkle family tree. During those early days of childhood my grandfather, William Marion Runkle, described the name of his father and mother along with their fathers and mothers. Around the same time I learned about a “Runkle Book” that my grandfather’s brother, Bill Runkle, had for a brief time. However, I later learned that my great uncle had passed it along to some other branch of our family. It was back then that I began to get a very rudimentary idea of family genealogy, and family trees. However, it wasn’t until the Spring of 2002 that I took on a deeper interest in genealogy, and began exploring my family roots in more detail with online genealogies that were available at the time. This year, 2025, my brother discovered an online public domain copy of that original “Runkle Book” (AKA “The Runkle Family Book” by Ben Van D. Fisher) that my family held so dearly back in the 1960s. So, with this publication I’m hoping to make this available to Runkle families in a more enduring format, the printed form. This enduring format is in stark contrast to the various computer formats that have come and gone, rendering the various floppy disk formats more difficult to access. This also adds more info on the Florida migration of Runkles back in the late 1880s.
