LA has been behaving itself. Private detective Paisley Fuentes must head south to Orange County to find that which pays: trouble. Two cohosts of a social media game show have turned up with their faces missing. Reigning uber-douche Kimberly Jackson has dropped off the Internet after swindling a defense contractor out of his family fortune. Hot on her trail down in OC, Paisley tussles with questionable delivery drivers, overzealous mall security, mischievous maquillage salespeople, and a shady philosophy professor implicated in a racket called Sexplosion, which offers lines of plastic-explosive lingerie and combustible lipstick. At once a literary whodunnit and a commentary on social media and ambition, The Sisterhood of the Wick is Raymond Chandler noir with a dash of David Lynch weirdness. In an underground where the marriage of cosmetics and munitions is commonplace, the kiss of a wick makes for a great kaboom.
