As foster father to Jesus Christ and husband to the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph is a vital, yet often overlooked saint in Church history. His fidelity to the will of God led him to change his life, leaving behind his plans to travel to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. We remember and praise Mary for her ‘yes’ when called to be mother to Jesus, but Joseph also said ‘yes’ when called. In doing so, he protected and fostered our salvation. To honor his irreplaceable contribution to our faith, the Catholic church created the Litany of St. Joseph. This litany presents all that we know about St. Joseph, honoring him as Guardian of the Virgin, Protector of Christ, Light of the Patriarchs, and more. The prayer can be found on the USCCB website in its entirety. The prompts in this journal are based on this prayer, presented in the same order as the litany. Prompts include: Spouse of the Mother of God, - Joseph’s vocation was different in many ways from what he expected. Pray over your vocation, that the Lord might help you through the unique experiences it will bring. - Zealous defender of Christ - To be a true follower of Christ is to stand against worldliness. Pray for the courage in your own life to defend Christ and His Church, thinking of specific times when you are called to do so. - Joseph, most just - Pray for justice in the world, but more specifically for the ways in which you can work toward true justice in your own life.
