This is a story of my father’s family roots of where his ancestors originated from the city of Aguascalientes in Mexico. The story describes how his great-great grandparents Julia & Valentine Roque were born, baptized & married along with my father’s grandparents Crispin & Julia Mojica raising their family with a strong Catholic faith in Aguascalientes and looking for a better life and escaping the poverty in Mexico. They migrated to Los Angeles, California, where Salvador and Guadalupe Sermeno met, married and raised their family. This connection is how our Mojica legacy begins and explains how the Roque, Mojica, Alvarado and Sermeno family are all connected. The book is my father’s wish to document and teach the future generations the history behind all our connected families of not only their military service to our country but also describes how his community service has been a long-lasting contribution for the many senior citizens and underprivileged families living in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities. His hope is that his legacy will continue with his children and grandchildren in helping others, keeping, and sharing their religious faith and giving back to the community in whatever ways they can to make a difference. For those who have put off documenting their families generational history, I hope this book encourages you to talk to your fathers, mothers, and grandparents before that time slips away and gather that family history so you may continue your own family legacies.
