in 2021, Spencer Iowa's Tangney Hotel is celebrating its centennial as the city celebrates its sesquicentennial. Not surprisingly, the hotel’s history echoes much of the city’s progress and prosperity in the last one hundred years. For most of the structure’s history, it served as a hotel. In recent years, it transitioned to non-profit volunteer-driven organization. Today, Grand Avenue Community Outreach provides social services and outreach programs to reach the physical, spiritual and long-term needs of the people of the Spencer community and beyond.From local community kitchen to a variety of social services, the building at 605 Grand Avenue once again is proving to be a Spencer landmark with proud community support.
