The sky was a light lilac and the hues of the universe had shunned beautifully on the window pane of a small apartment in West Philadelphia. Birds sung songs to the heavens as the world was silent and there was nothing heard except heart beats and the rise and fall of men and women's chest. Crying babies and mothers awoke to save the children from their screams. Children dreamed of who they would one day become while adults showered their sleepy bodies as they prepared for the day ahead of them, and rush hour had already hit nearing the height of depression. Lola slept good and hard during the majority of the night. Her cocoa skin tossed and turned a little but mostly she slept hard. There is no wonder Lola didn't hear the mail man as she normally did when he walked up to the front porch with his bells ringing. The mailman wore bells on his shorts to identify that he was approaching a home in order to prevent attack dogs and fearful woman. Lola slept as the mail man delivered her normal mail into the slot in the center of the front door. Magazines landed on the floor and other miscellaneous mail hit the floor like paper bombs. Her frizzy haired cat, Pookie sniffed the mail and checked for anything that appeared suspicious. Pookie was extremely protective of Lola in that way, she always secured the premises for anything out of place. In fact, she was more like a watch cat who took care of her owner.
