What if one scoreboard could show you baseball's past—and change the future? Step inside Wrigley Field, where an aging scoreboard hides a secret no one was meant to discover. In The Time Traveling Scoreboard , a devoted baseball fan stumbles upon a mysterious portal hidden within Wrigley's iconic scoreboard—one that opens windows into pivotal moments in baseball history. What begins as curiosity quickly becomes something more dangerous when the past refuses to stay buried. Blending baseball nostalgia, historical intrigue, and a touch of the impossible, this novel explores legacy, sacrifice, and the moments that define us—on and off the field. Perfect for readers who love: Baseball history and Wrigley Field lore - Time-travel stories grounded in realism - Fiction driven by heart, memory, and tradition If you've ever wondered what it would be like to witness baseball history firsthand, this journey is for you. I wrote The Time Traveling Scoreboard because I have always believed baseball is more than a game. It is memory. It is history. It is the one place where generations meet without realizing it. Like many fans, I grew up loving baseball not just for the score, but for what surrounded it—the stories passed down, the ballparks that seemed to breathe, and the feeling that something important had happened long before we arrived. Wrigley Field, especially its iconic scoreboard, always struck me as a silent witness to decades of moments no box score could ever fully capture. One day, I asked myself a simple question: What if that scoreboard had seen more than we think? What if it could show us the past—not as a memory, but as a doorway? That question became this book. I didn't want to write a traditional science-fiction story. I wanted to write a grounded, believable novel where time travel feels less like fantasy and more like discovery. The kind of story where curiosity leads to consequence, and where history reminds us that every era has something to teach—if we are willing to look. At its heart, this book is about legacy: what we inherit, what we protect, and what we pass on. It's about the pull of nostalgia, the responsibility that comes with knowledge, and the idea that some places matter because of what they have endured. I wrote this novel for baseball fans, for history lovers, and for anyone who has ever stood in an old stadium and felt the presence of something larger than themselves. If the story encourages readers to see the game—and time itself—a little differently, then it has done exactly what I hoped it would do. Robert P. Chappell, Jr., grew up with a passion for baseball. As a young boy, he played in both t-shirt and little leagues. While playing high school baseball, Robert participated in the Babe Ruth League, which revealed his talent to scouts with the Cincinnati Reds. After contemplating an incredible offer, Robert chose to forego his dream of playing baseball to dedicate his life to public service. Robert graduated from Radford University in Virginia with a degree in Criminal Justice. He selected a career path of service in law enforcement and the U.S. Army Reserve. While serving in the military, Robert obtained his Master of Science in Strategic Studies at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Blacksburg Police Department in Virginia hired Robert as a police officer in 1985. After working two years, Robert was hired by the Virginia State Police where he worked for over thirty-six years, retiring as a State Police Captain. Robert retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty-five years, including deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is the recipient of numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star and the Combat Action Badge. Robert has authored four books, Child Identity Theft: What Every Parent Needs to Know (Roman & Littlefield), Rock Painting Therapy: A Soldier's Journey to Improved Mental Health (Gatekeeper Press), The Patriot Pitcher (Gatekeeper Press), and The Time Traveling Scoreboard (Gatekeeper Press). Robert and his family live in Virginia.
