A former mayor is asked to serve as Vice President of the United States, for a Chief Executive who is very popular but basically a figurehead. When NASA detects an asteroid that is headed for a collision with the Earth, the VP is handed the reins of power to figure out how to intercept, divert or destroy it before it reaches the planet. As the VP assembles a team, a luxury cruise sets out for the North Atlantic where VIP passengers including the Vice President’s daughter and the President himself expect to have a good view of the explosion in space. When bombs hit the asteroid in an attempt to divert its trajectory, the VP’s team discovers in horror that it was concealing an alien transport vessel headed for Earth. The aliens splash down in the ocean near the cruise liner, are like nothing we ever imagined, and appear to be hostile.
