A group of Islamic fundamentalists undertakes to perform political acts in the U.S., and Pentagon staffer Rick Welsh decides to do something to stop the death and destruction An Iranian faction, frustrated by political efforts to persuade the United States to leave the Gulf, undertakes a terrorist campaign. Guerrillas enter the United States with the objective of killing the president, destroying the White House, and humiliating a nation they believe is the incarnation of Satan. Christie portrays the guerrillas as dedicated, highly trained, intensely religious soldiers who hold strongly to a faith and politics most Americans never bother to understand and therefore perceive as bizarre and irrational. Although he is occasionally preachy, Christie has written a serviceable thriller and injects a degree of humanity into his villains that is unusual for the genre. Recommended for the thriller shelf. - Edwin B. Burgess, U.S. Army TRALINET Ctr., Fort Monroe, Va. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.
