Five cute, cuddly, and creative creatures must save their dear forest home from a mysterious, growing threat! It’s like the Uglydolls meeting Winnie the Pooh. The Woollyhoodwinks are five plush dolls who enjoy life in the richly textured Black North Forest. Junco leads the imaginative Ludic, the prankster Reddy, the reasonable Ozard, and the cute baby named Fluke. However, their carefree existence is interrupted when a piece of the sky falls to earth. This dark patch begins to grow! As it spreads over the ground and disturbs the tranquility of their woodland home, these adorable friends take turns trying to solve this strange mystery. How will the naturally inventive ‘Hoodwinks save the day? Ingenious photo-illustrations make stuffed animals come alive in a textured and stitched landscape. This inventive tale will spark the imaginations of both kids and adults. True to the doll’s original handcrafted designs, the illustrations’ ingenious landscapes of colorfully patterned fabrics will entrance children. Wonderful vistas that spring from sewn cloth will remind parents of cozy homespun quilts. Teachers and librarians will appreciate the amusing craftwork and allegorical storyline, whereas librarians will savor the lyrical prose which flirts with poetry. The Woollyhoodwinks’ eye-catching antics are bound to appeal to the dreamer in everyone. "These whimsical characters are designed as a tribute to hand crafted toys of the past, with a contemporary twist. Their unique personalities are sure to warm hearts of all ages." - Raymond McKenzie, San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design "The artwork in the book is perhaps my favorite thing of all, a blend of traditional illustration and fabric crafts that have been photo-shopped in. It has a warmth and depth to it that I find very appealing. I have a huge addiction to crafting and that this story is born from five hand made stuffies is really inspiring to me, as a crafter, writer and mother... From my son’s perspective, however, it was wonderful. He found both the story and the artwork to be absolutely riveting. He consistently requests it at night and even points to things when out hiking as comparisons to things in this book. If it engages him and prompts him into making connections with everyday occurrences. I’d say we have a winner" - GeekMom, wired.com “The Woollyhoodwinks plush toys come to life and share a new adventure in the new children's book... Each scene in the book is beautifully photographed mixed in with drawings and stitched scenery. The jist of the story is about how the Woollyhoodwinks carefree existence is interrupted when a piece of the sky falls to the earth, becoming the infamous dark patch. But, cute story aside, you'll want to get this adorable book for all it's crafty inspiration!” - Craft Magazine “ I LOVE IT. It's my favorite book I've reviewed all year: While I may not always feel smartre enough for Sartre, The Woollyhoodwinks vs. the Dark Patch is one for this existentialist. With a mix of cute handmade sock-puppet-looking things (the aforementioned Woollyhoodwinks) and whimsical sentences that shock and please with their originality, if you like your adult books intense, this is the kids' book for you…Of course your kids just may think the dolls are cute. And that's okay too.” – Cool Mom Picks “ The Woolly Hoodwinks vs. The Dark Patch is such a different tale, a different way to tell the tale I should say, but with close to home, common messages for the kiddies {over coming your fear of the dark and working together as a team to solve a mystery}. The characters are not your typical cartoons or drawings, these are hand-crafted dolls, giving the story a warm feeling so to say. This is sure to be a favorite in book shelves all around!” – Baby Luxe “OMG! Just finished reading the book...and I'm in love. I knew the illustrations would be gorgeous…But the writing is SO good. The cadence is wonderful (read it out loud to myself) and I like that it doesn't shy away from words that might be new to some kids…Immediately I made connections to Shel Silverstein's work and the great 'nonsense poems' of Edward Lear.” - Mahar Drygoods A Woollyhoodwinks stampede will rile things up. The five new handmade plush whatchamacallits possess out-of-this-world cuteness. Not many handmade toys have catchy theme songs. Those are usually reserved for the 'popular' characters who reside in Orlando. However, Woollyhoodwinks seem to have no regard for the status quo. Five little creatures have arrived from the Black North Forest...perhaps you should come in and visit soon. I had a lot of fun reading this 36 page adventure into the Black North Forest where the Woollyhoodwinks live and I think that you would too...They successfully and uniquely preserved the stitched textile aspect of the Woollyhoodwinks through a combination of fabric texture and digital illustration. It's a joy simply for the visual aspect! The Woollyhoodwinks are five cuddly pals
