What does it mean to overcome the world? What are the spiritual weapons used to gain victories in the Christian life? Richard Alleine uses 1 John 5:1–4 as his primary text to answer these questions and many more. After explaining the believer’s armor and his enemy, Alleine treats at length how Christians obtain the victory over the world in the fight of faith. This book is a reminder that the Christian life is not idle and that every second we are fighting in a spiritual war. If you find yourself a battle-weary saint striving to stay the course, take up this book to learn from this great Puritan pastor on how to suit up in the whole armor of God and be strong in the Lord. The Puritans often used the military motif to describe the Christian life. This is one such exemplary work on how a Christian can be victorious in his spiritual battles. Alleine demonstrates that you become a soldier as soon as you become a saint and he deals with the Christian's armor, the Christian's enemies, and the Christian's ultimate victory. This book will be a great encouragement to weary saints. Joseph Alleine (1634-1668) was educated at Oxford from 1649 under men such as John Owen and Thomas Goodwin, he took his BA in 1651 and became a tutor and subsequently chaplain to the College. In 1655 Alleine accepted an invitation to become assistant to George Newton, vicar in Taunton, Somerset, and in the same year married his cousin, Theodosia. He died at the age of thirty-four.
