The fourth edition of THE ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE continues to focus on the internal history of English -- its sounds, grammar, and vocabulary. In organization, the vocabulary is still treated most intensely in the final three chapter of the book.
