Locomotives and trains featured in this edition include: ¶ St. Louis-San Francisco 2004, an EMD Class E7-A, is leading a passenger train out of St. Louis Union Station, MO, in January 1963. All the Frisco E units were named after famous horses (mostly racehorses). 2004 carried the name Dan Patch. 2004 was delivered in March 1947. ¶ Denver and Rio Grande Western Krause-Maffei Diesel Hydraulic Engines 4002 and 4001 (two ML-4000’s) are bringing a westbound freight into Tolland, CO, on February 3, 1962. Rio Grande purchased three of these 3,540-horsepower locomotives in 1961. ¶ Chicago, Burlington and Quincy 9912-A and 9912-B (an EMD E5A-E5B set) are at Union Station, Chicago, IL, with westbound Train #21, the Morning Zephyr, on April 1, 1962. ¶ Norfolk and Western 1212 and 1217 are double-headed with an eastbound freight as they work up the Blue Ridge Grade near Blue Ridge Summit, VA, on April 24, 1957. These Class A 2-6-6-4’s are equipped with canteens; N&W called auxiliary water cars canteens. All 43 of these locomotives were built in the Norfolk and Western’s Roanoke Shops. ¶ Western Maryland 802 and 837, two Class H-9 Consolidations (2-8-0’s) built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1921, are double-headed on a westbound coal empty near West Virginia Central Junction, WV, on May 31, 1952. ¶ The Mississippian is a 25-mile-long railroad operating between Amory and Fulton, Mississippi. At one time, the railroad owned two Baldwin Locomotive Works’ Consolidations (2-8-0’s built in 1920) in service. ¶ Boston and Maine 3644, a Class P-2-a Pacific (4-6-2) built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1911, is bringing a commuter train through Wakefield Junction, MA, on July 30, 1954. Less than a year later, it was retired. ¶ Chicago and North Western 4004, a Class E-4 Hudson (4-6-4), is leading the eastbound Pacific Limited at Geneva, IL, in April 1948. C&NW purchased nine of these sleek passenger engines from the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1938. ¶ Union Pacific 4003, pulling away from the coal dock at Harriman, WY, on September 2, 1958, was one of an order of 20 placed with the American Locomotive Company in 1941. ¶ Louisville and Nashville 1046, one of 200 locomotives in the H-23 Class, a Consolidation (2-8-0) built in 1905 by the Rogers Locomotive Company, is switching at New Orleans, LA, on October 17, 1943. ¶ Western Pacific 804-A (an all-EMD power set: FP-7, F7B-F3B) is leading Train #18, the eastbound California Zephyr, on Altamont Pass in the spring of 1969. ¶ Maine Central 706, an Electro-Motive E7A, is on a passenger train, poking out of the train shed at Bangor, ME, on December 18, 1958. 706 was built and delivered by EMD in 1946. § This 2024 monthly wall calendar features: Large blocks for notes
