On October 14, 2016, my dad, Bob Hale, began a series of Facebook posts to capture thoughts and musings he wanted to leave for his children, grandchildren and great-granchildren. After his passing on April 14, 2022, I began compiling his writings to publish this as a book for the family. I was very tempted to entitle this book “Thoughts From An Old Guy” as that was the name of the folder where Dad kept his drafts for his post, but going through his Facebook page and those drafts, I realized that, while these were indeed “Thoughts From An Old Guy”, it was a celebration of things for which he was thankful. There were a wide range of topics, ranging from the serious to the absurd, but each one was a glimpse inside the mind and heart of Dad at a time when he was undergoing an array of health-related issues. Regardless of the pain, the challenges to both his pride and his psyche, Dad always seemed to keep a truly thankful heart, which he shared in these posts. In total, he posted 701 musings in this series. I hope they speak to you as they did me.
