Most of us do, after all. Now I'm sure you've your fair share of first word titles. Like tiny little dictionaries, they are. This series is a little different. They aren't first word books but first "phrase" books. Kind of a cool idea, right? And yes. Don't worry. There's definitely a mirror at the end.― Betsy Bird , School Library Journal Begin with the board books. Most of us do, after all. Now I'm sure you've your fair share of first word titles. Like tiny little dictionaries, they are. This series is a little different. They aren't first word books but first "phrase" books. Kind of a cool idea, right? And yes. Don't worry. There's definitely a mirror at the end.― Betsy Bird , School Library Journal Written in consultation with a speech and language therapist, books in the Toddler Talk series are designed to encourage young children who have learned words to begin using and interpreting them in common phrases. In this book, the communication between adults and young children takes place in four families’ kitchens and dining areas, where adults and older children sit with a toddler in a high chair. Phrases in the text vary from a simple “Wash hands” before the meal to the more complex “Uh-oh. Dirty floor” following a spill. This attractive board book is both useful and appealing. ― Carolyn Phelan , Booklist “Eye-catching double-pages. . . let the bold and engaging art shine and offer extra space for flaps to lift.”― Rachel G. Payne , The Horn Book Carolina Búzio (Illustrator) Carolina Búzio is an illustrator and occasional animator drawn to quirky characters and exciting colour combinations. She was born in the lovely seaside town of Porto, Portugal, and is currently living in artsy Berlin, Germany, with her partner (who is unfortunately allergic to cats or else she'd finally be the crazy cat lady her child-self always assumed she would one day be). With a great memory for faces (but terrible for names, she apologises in advance) and objects with a personality, it makes sense that she illustrates children's books for a living. The toughest but also her favourite part of the illustration process is the colouring stage: whenever she puts two odd colours together that go unexpectedly well, she gets butterflies in her stomach.
