Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Too Clever VI: Jason's Eagle is an educational children's book for 4th-6th graders, written and designed by Dr. Julia E. Antoine. Jason Fitzpatrick loves living near the Long Island Sound. His favorite birds nest near the Sound and dive into the water for fish. He's been studying Bald Eagles since he was very small. Jason even built a pair of eagle wings when he was five and tried them out from his bedroom window. They didn't work too well, and his parents found him in the oak tree outside his window. Jason's grandparents bought him a pair of binoculars which have allowed him to study the birds up close. He knows how to identify the gender of the birds and can tell the difference between juveniles and adults. His parents have been very supportive of his interest in ornithology, and, now that he's ten years old, have decided to buy him a digital camera as a present for doing so well in school. After studying the use of cameras for bird photography,he came up with two perfect cameras, and he was thrilled when his parents decided to buy him the one he really wanted. Dr. Julia E. On the shores of Long Island Sound, near the Connecticut River, lived a young boy who was so fascinated with the American Bald Eagles that fished in the waters near his home, he spent every free moment he had watching them. Everything about the bald eagles fascinated Jason, from the way they flew in the sky to the way they hunted for food. Even the way they built such huge nests grabbed his attention. No other bird flew like the bald eagles. To ten year old Jason, the bald eagle was awe-inspiring. No other bird species commanded such respect when in flight mode. The eagle's every movement was graceful and regal, even to the way it turned its head to look at him, and it did look at him as he gazed at it through his binoculars. This is Dr. Julia E. Antoine's tenth children's book. She wrote her first book in 2010, to satisfy the need of her grandchildren, her Caribbean friends and their children; as well as, all the children of the world. She has said repeatedly, "this genre of writing allows me to return to my childhood to play." She hopes that by writing these stories, they will be used to impart some knowledge to both the children who read them and their parents. Every one of her children's book can be used in the classroom to promote dialogue and enhance learning.
