What comes to mind when you think of the word “great”? Maybe you think of someone who is great… like a sports icon. Tiger Woods – a great at golf. Babe Ruth – a great at baseball. LeBron James and Michael Jordan – two greats at basketball (let’s settle the argument once and for all, we all know Jordan is the greatest). Maybe you think of something that is great… The Grand Canyon. The smell of fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. The perfection of McDonald’s French fries. Chances are, the first thing that came to your mind wasn’t yourself (if it was, you might need to get professional help for narcissism). Our culture measures greatness in different but related ways: social media followers, bank account balances, career achievements, or having a lot of cool stuff. When we measure ourselves up against what the world around us says is “great,” we fall way short. And the truth is, that’s okay. Doesn’t make sense? Just stay with me. As a Christian, I believe with all my heart the greatest man whoever walked the earth was a carpenter from a back-water town in Israel. He lived over 2,000 years ago, but His message still changes lives today. He never traveled too far from the little country of Israel, but His followers are found worldwide. He never formed an army, founded a school, or held a political position, but His life has had more influence than any other person. His name is Jesus. He is the greatest of all time. Truth is, there’s not something great in me. But there is Someone great in me. He changed my life forever. He can change your life, too. He can do something great with your life. In this short book, I want to introduce you to seven "traits" that God uses in a "great" way for His glory. Along the way, I’ll show you what the Bible teaches about these traits to help you develop a life that truly is great – a fulfilling, abundant life that makes a difference for God. Thanks for joining me on the journey! I pray this book helps you grow in your walk with God. Dr. Clark Whitney Pastor, Immanuel Baptist Church, El Dorado, AR
