At the age of 37, Tia Baruti was diagnosed with one of the rarest and most challenging forms of breast cancer, HER2: human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive. Baruti - a natural-born optimist found herself in an unusual spot - her agile body couldn’t get out of bed, her fit physique was hidden under excess weight, and her natural joy was replaced with depression, anxiety, mood swings, and stress. Joining the ranks of more than three million American women with a history of breast cancer was not a badge of honor this retired military veteran wanted. As an experienced dancer, gymnast, and track star, Tia Baruti knew her body well. In fact, in her military training she was known to keep up with colleagues 10 years her junior. This mother, wife, and soldier knew she could catch anything thrown her way. But when a routine doctor’s visit turned her world upside down, she knew God had a different plan for her life.
