This is a book of poetry, describing different times in my life. Ranging from my parents, then through an era of drinking and drugging, while raising my two sons (without their mother), into depression and subsequently quitting the drink and drug and surrendering to the blood of Christ Jesus. I have been lucky enough to live through a life of drinking and drugging and find sobriety, so many of my friends have not. This book describes everyday problems that most people can relate to. It also shows the reader, there is life after addiction. table of contentsmomdadshe left usI'm goneshe said nothe bluesdepressionit just isthe whole in the wallcan't sleepcut my hairMack in the hattimenowmy viewlife counting birthdaystime well spentI missed itdéjà vucounting daisiesfriendship Jim McDonald has been a Southern Maryland resident since 1965, growing up on a tobacco farm he hated, under an alcoholic father he swore he would never imitate. At the age of twenty-four, his wife left him and their two sons and she never looked back. Four DWIs, four possession charges, and three ex-wives finally showed him that he was his father. The one true steady influence in his life was his mother, who helped him and her grandsons through it all. Jail time in 1989 convinced him he had to stop the bleeding and a visiting minister showed him that with Jesus leading he could begin anew.Twilight to Son Shine, the first of the Thoughts into Poetry series, invites you to take an intimate journey with Jim from hope to despair, into and out of depression, and back to hope again. Jim McDonald maintains the From My Head to Yours website: jfmcdonaldjr.com. In 1989,Jim "The Houseboat Poet" McDonald turned towards Jesus and away from the drinking and drugs that had characterized his life for seventeen years. He lives on his houseboat, floating up and down with the tide, writing about life from the waterline. He is finally fulfilling a life-long dream of becoming a poet and writer.
