Civilization is made up of cognitive revolution and cognitive synchronization of humans. The synchronization involved is not self-organized, but induced. It started with time induced on the earth by the sun, which synchronized the daily life cycle of all the life forms on the earth. In Chapter 2 it has been identified that sun synchronizes the lives on earth by virtue of (1) enormous power, (2) its ability to communicate with the earth in huge electromagnetic spectra, and (3) its periodic motion relative to the earth in absolute regularity (without randomness or with zero entropy). These three properties of induced synchronizer (like sun) are universal. In Chapter 4 it has been argued that the cognitive revolution of god has all these three properties, by virtue of which god turned out to be the first large scale synchronizer of civilization that gave rise to large scale barter trade leading to creation of the earliest city states in Mesopotamia. The scale of synchronization became even larger under large social religions as shown in Chapter 5. Large empires came into being. Due to the principle (3) above, monotheism is a stronger synchronizer than polytheism (multiple gods may give rise to entropy due to mutual discord, thereby reducing the pantheon's ability to synchronize the believers). This is one strong reason why polytheism was wiped away in the face of advancement of monotheism. The only exception is Hinduism in India, which has been argued, due to the caste system. Caste is a very strong synchronizer. Chapter 6 is devoted to science and technology. Science has been divided into science of communication (language) and science of comparison (numbers). The two confluenced first time into Euclidean geometry, which not only became the foundation of science, but also became the foundation of rationality. No other cognitive revolution synchronized mankind stronger (unlike religious texts interpretation of Euclidean geometry is more uniform than anything outside mathematics, making it the same mutual information across populations, and thereby synchronizing them). How technology has been synchronizing mankind since stone tools to smart phone has been analyzed. Stone tool and controlled use of fire revolutionized the nutrition intake of the hominins leading to development of brain as discussed in Chapter 3. Hand-brain coordination in tool making also contributed in brain development. Hand, brain and breast immensely contributed in developing human intelligence. Hand revolutionized cooperation and communication. Cognition = perception + action and intelligence is the measure of efficiency in cognition. Intellect is the profundity of intelligence, which is divided into insight and far sight. The latter plays pivotal role in synchronization and institution building as shown in Chapter 8, which is devoted to trade and commerce. Money making through commerce inspires the highest reward value in most human brains. That is why anything can be commercialized, but once commercialized commerce will predominate over everything else. Thus, commerce is controlling science and technology. It created empires, and now controlling states. Chapter 7 studies synchronization under culture and education. Institutionalized education always played pivotal role in synchronizing the top of the power pyramid. Synchronizing the top ensures synchronizing the lower strata, whereas entropy in the top propagates well to the bottom to destabilize the society. The book ends in Chapter 9 with an epilogue on sustainable development.
