Many will never know who they were meant to become before their innocence was stripped at a young age-stolen within a maze of abuses and violence in various degrees of assault, shrouded in shadows.For that, artist and author, James Randall Chumbley shares an unwanted kinship with millions of those. It is for them that he has allotted parts of his story in his first and third books-and now in his fourth book, Unraveled. Despite many successes and contributions to society, a part of him has remained mentally tethered to those events and their origins. Eventually, the author retaliated out of self-preservation, and even revenge for himself, and those whom he instinctively felt he must protect-his mother and sister from the monstrous psychopathy of his father. But he wasn't the only one Chumbley would seek out retribution; although, unaware of the accruing emotional cost that one day would have to pay, or the unraveling of his being. Accordingly, between 2009 and 2012, he attempted suicide three separate times. As in his others, Unraveled is from the pages of the author's journals, in which he confided many secrets and truths, from junior high school into his adult life. Between its covers, he divulges a life of three separate people he simultaneously lived-each one protecting the other's truths and secrets while two of them hid the third: the monster under his flesh molded by his father in his own image due to many violations exacted on him. Three virtual personages maneuvering through abuse, violence, alcoholism, confusion, uncertainty, love and loss, desire and lust, sexual arrangements for money, life and death, and mental illness. This is the author's last book, birthed from those journals. Subsequently, they have been burned into ashes. Artist and author, James Randall Chumbley was born in Fayette, Alabama-but raised in Warner Robins, Georgia. Despite a childhood overshadowed by alcoholism, debasement, and abuse and violence by his father and their mutual hatred for each other, Mr. Chumbley feared he wouldn't live to see his eighteenth birthday, believing his father would eventually kill him. At seventeen, he found great relief in his father's death. Persevering, the artist and author graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia in 1977, studying art and psychology. Shortly after, Mr. Chumbley moved to Atlanta instead of his original plan of Los Angeles to continue to look after his alcoholic and mentally ill mother's welfare. The artist and writer was discovered by a well-known photographer while working in a department store and modeled internationally for the next several years. He has been involved with a number of nonprofit organizations: including AIDS, Youth, Abused Women and Children, Mental Health Services, Homelessness, and Equal Rights-donating his time and mixed media art. An established artist for three decades, his work has been in nine galleries over his art career and is in many impressive private and corporate collections across the country and abroad. Mr. Chumbley has authored four books-the most recent is, "Unraveled." In 2009, he was diagnosed with several mental afflictions that led him to three suicide attempts over a span of three years. With the help of medications and therapy, Mr. Chumbley remains dedicated to his art and writing and continues his volunteerism and donations. He now lives in California. Harrison Anthony King was born and raised in the Atlanta area. After earning his BS and MBA degrees from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, he founded Axcess Marketing Group, an advertising, graphic design, and branding firm, with studios in Atlanta and Toronto. His current enterprise, Standpoint Communications, focuses on his business writing and consulting backgrounds. Somewhere around 1992, King and author James Randall Chumbley crossed paths. An ardent aficionado of Chumbley's previous books, King took a keen interest in his fourth, "Unraveled" from its inception. Accordingly, King became the consultant and editor, and a literary confidant. Over a period of some five years, working with the author, the manuscript became a labor of love. Hopefully, this sheer authentic and electric synergy comes to light on it pages.
