The study is mainly concerned with urban poverty of slum dwellers, their present health conditions and Human Development Index of slums of Nagpur city. Urban poverty has been discussed spatially with the help of various parameters. Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index had been work out by applying Multi-Dimensional Index Poverty indicators. Apart from this feature, health condition of slumdwellers was discussed in this book. The third important aspect of study is Human Development Index of the slumdwellers of Nagpur city. The recent methodology of United Nation Organisation and World Bank Report had been employed to calculate the Human Development Index of Nagpur slumdwellers. Human Development Index parameters like Income Index, Life expectancy at Birth and Education Indexes have been calculated separately. HDI of Nagpur was compared with the National HDI of India. The HDI of slums were compared with the HDI of sub Saharan countries. The approach of the study is scientific and rational. The most distinguishing feature of this book is Human Development Index was calculated for exclusively for slums. No other study had highlighted this aspect of slums ever before.
