Young doctor Erika Jane Matley, or EJ as she’s known to almost everyone, must call upon old friends to help her make a desperate journey. She has to make her way from Alaska to discover the plight of her parents, who live on the war-torn west coast of the United States. Police Sergeant Pete Sloan was not prepared for the ravages an EMP would visit upon the city of Seattle. After the EMP strikes destroy the city's vital infrastructure, he struggles to find refuge and help stem the tide of carnage taking place in the city he loves. Fate will join these two lives, raising many challenges to the answers they need. Both will discover that in the midst of disaster, they are stronger standing together than alone. Working as a team, they arrive at the home of EJ’s relatives on Vashon Island. However, the short-lived peace after the withdrawal of the Chinese forces is deceiving. A malevolent evil stalks Niko, Liz, and the other islanders, and will have to be faced together before they can begin picking up the shattered remains of their lives.
