Peru is a historical and archeological wonder with several different UNESCO World Heritage Sites within its borders. This country is located on the western side of South America in the Southern Hemisphere just below the equator and runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean and from the ocean to the Andes Mountains and eastward into the Amazon rainforest. A narrow, largely arid coastal desert runs north to south along the Pacific Ocean, with isolated river-valleys between large stretches of desert wasteland; these rivers create fertile green strips with seasonal rains, running from the Andes Mountain highlands to the ocean. From these isolated river-valleys arose many different cultures over many thousands of years with truly remarkable legacies that make Peru’s story unique. The Inca culture centered in the Andes Mountain Highlands were the last of these many cultures. 158 images of Peru in this book focus on the ancient cultures and desert landscape along the north coast of Peru, the Inca culture and landscapes of Cusco and the Sacred Valley, including Maachu Picchu, in the Andes mountains. The book is divided into four sections. The first grouping is the coastal desert from Lima up to Chiclayo in the North extending along the edge of the Pacific Ocean (38 images). The second grouping explores the Andes mountains and the Sacred Valley area from Cusco to Aguas Calientes (42 images). The third group looks at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (49 images). The Fourth grouping looks at Peruvians and tourists at work and play in Peru (29 images). These images from the coastal desert and the Andes Mountains just hint at the beauty of Peru.
