SOLID WHITE TUNA: Unlike most canned tuna, ours is cooked only once, which preserves its mild flavor and tender texture. It comes from a Pacific fishery in which smaller boats line-catch individual tuna using the sustainable troll method, which ensures careful handling of each fish, safety for dolphins, and very minimal bycatch. PANTRY STAPLE: An excellent source of lean protein, our canned albacore is a versatile pantry staple with endless possibilities for work, home, school, travel, adventure, or survival. Enjoy it on a salad, in sandwiches and recipes, or straight from the can. A CAMPSITE ESSENTIAL: Packed with flavor and protein, our canned fish is easy to pack, ready to eat, and perfect for quick, satisfying meals under the open sky. SEAFOOD-SOURCE OMEGA-3S: A 2-ounce serving provides 1,480mg of omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). MSC CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD: Products described as "MSC certified" come from a fishery that has been independently certified as sustainable under a program operated by The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a global nonprofit organization. These fisheries have been found to meet all three principles of the MSC Fisheries Standard, which are to sustain wild seafood stocks, to use catch methods that have minimal environmental impact, and to demonstrate effective fishery management. Hand-packed and cooked just once for maximum flavor and nutrition, our albacore tuna are selected for their small size to ensure optimal levels of purity. No added oil, water or salt. All Vital Choice albacore comes from a North Pacific fishery in which smaller boats line-catch individual tuna using the sustainable troll method. This ensures careful handling of each fish, safety for dolphins, and very minimal bycatch. Thanks to its sustainable harvest and lower mercury content, albacore from this fishery is categorized as a "Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Vital Choice albacore tuna is sustainably harvested by our neighbor Paul Hill, who quickly flash-freezes it on his small boat to preserve the fish at its peak of freshness. Because predatory fish such as tuna accumulate mercury over time, Paul provides us with younger, smaller albacore (15 lbs or less) for optimal purity. These smaller fish comprise a portion of every catch, and are not targeted for harvest.
