Voices of Buchtel: In Our Own Words is a powerful collection of student writing that captures the voices, experiences, and reflections of young authors from Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. Through poetry, personal narratives, short stories, and letters, students explore themes of self-identity, family, perseverance, and lessons learned. This collection invites readers into the minds of students as they share their authentic selves. From moments of joy and love to stories of overcoming obstacles, each piece reflects a student voice that deserves to be celebrated and heard. Created as part of the Love for Literacy initiative, this book celebrates the power of student voice and the importance of literacy as a tool for enriching their lives beyond the school walls. This project was made possible through support from an Educator Initiative Grant from the GAR Foundation, which helps bring innovative ideas to life in order to support student growth and achievement.
