LARGE PRINT EDITION: Orthodox Christian practices, devotions, or traditions when seen through the lens of the non-Orthodox may seem foreign or unfamiliar.[i] There are gestures, scents, sights, and sounds that may not be present in other Christian traditions or practices. While familiar to the practicing Orthodox, those customs which are peculiar to the Orthodox faith may pose a stumbling block for those who do not have a firm foundation or understanding of Orthodoxy. However, even the pious Orthodox who employ these traditions, but do not appreciate why they are observed, share this ignorance with the non-orthodox.
