This book relates the events in the authors life. Pat describes how her family lived and survived during the second world war in London. She emigrated to Canada in 1958 and soon after emigrated to Seattle. Pat was born in 1933, she has happy memories of her early life living in pre-war London. The book has interwoven the events in her life that were predicated by the political actions of countries. Her war experiences altered the course of her options in life. Changing the life she might otherwise have pursued Pat writes of the challenges that emigration presents to people like her who desired to leave her home country. In 1964, Pat, her husband and two children moved to Bellevue a suburb of Seattle. There she began a new life in horticulture as a gardening instructor and Master Gardener. She was instrumental in the development of the Bellevue Botanical Garden and other ventures that have benefitted the citizens of her new country.
