Worfield has an extensive collection of manor court rolls from the fourteenth century. Part 1 is a translation of Worfield's surviving Manor court Rolls from 1327-1375, and Part 2 covers the period 1376-1399. The original documents are not always easy to read, and these translations aim to make the contents available to a wider audience than those familiar with Medieval Latin. A run of court rolls such as this provides insights into the development of the manor both socially and economically. The Black Death was a significant event in 1349, and like other manors across England Worfield lost a large number of its inhabitants empowering those who survived, and their descendants, to challenge their subservience to the lord of the manor. By the end of the century such challenges come thick and fast and the question is whether Worfield Manor will survive at all. The manor does survive, but only just, one feels
