"We Strive to Save" is a look at the history of the City of York, Pennsylvania Department of Fire/Rescue Services. The goal of this book is to serve as a companion to the book "History of the York City Fire Department - 1776 to 1976" with in depth research into specific topics that were not covered in the 1976 book, or not covered in great detail. Gregory C. Halpin is a lifelong resident of York, and is a third-generation firefighter for the City of York. His maternal grandfather was a volunteer firefighter for the Rescue Fire Company. Halpin, his father and three brothers all served as career firefighters for the City of York. Halpin retired in 2015 after a 34-year career, attaining the rank of Deputy Chief. Halpin was named Chief Historian of the fire department upon his retirement.
