The kids loved guessing which animal was being showcased by the creative, fun titles to each chapter. The author's sense of humor was reflected by the captions for each picture, and the children delighted in the play of words describing each animal. If your child loves animals, this book is a great resource for getting all the vital information from classification to habitat to food. The information is presented in a concise, easy to read format. This is a great resource for animal research, not only in the classroom but for home enjoyment. My class gave this book a 5 star rating out of 5 stars. They can't wait for the next book to be published! -Deborah Johnson, 3rd Grade Teacher Lakes Elementary, Rockford Public Schools In this information-packed book , Carr introduces eight "weird and wacky creatures" including the star-nosed mole, the capybara, and the babirusa. She provides details about each animal including their IUCN status, physical details, food sources, predators, and behavior. She also offers fun projects related to each animal, which use objects found in most households. Each animal is shown in photographs, including pictures of offspring when available. Her appendices include an index, a Glossary of Terms, and a listing of references and photo credits. Weird & Wacky Creatures will thrill anyone who loves animals, and I can just about guarantee that no matter how animal-savvy you are, there will be at least one new creature for you to learn about in this book. And even those creatures who are a bit more familiar, such as the capybara, are dealt with in such detail that one finishes the section feeling enriched and more knowledgeable. K.B. Carr's text is never dull or didactic, and learning about the animals highlighted in this book was fascinating and fun. It's obvious throughout that the author thoroughly researched each animal, and her presentation is professional while still geared to a younger audience. Kelsey Leigh's illustrations are fabulous, colorful, and just quirky enough to make the reader smile and pause to appreciate them. And the photographs selected bring each animal to life most brilliantly. Weird & Wacky Creatures is a grand read -- one that will make the reader look forward to future volumes. It's most highly recommended. - Jack Magnus, Readers' Favorite Reviewer K.B. Carr is an animal enthusiast, not an animal expert. They both start with the letter "e", but shouldn't be confused. One of them requires much larger student loans. Her mother wanted to know why she asked so many questions all the time.  "Curiosity killed the cat", her mother would say. "But, satisfaction brought her back", K.B. would reply. She is the mother of two children, Ryan and Kelsey, and she tries really hard to answer all their questions if she can. K.B. lives in West Michigan with her dog Jack. Jack is a girl dog with a boy's name.  K.B. says that Ryan, Kelsey, and Jack are - and always will be - her favorite Weird & Wacky Creatures.
