These baseboard grills are made of white powder coated steel. They will sit 7/8" out from the wall. The size is based on the size of the hole. If you measure your hole and it is 16 x 6 then you would order a 16 x 6 grill. The faceplate would be 1 1/4 inches large then listed size. So a 16 x 6 would actually have a faceplate of 17 1/4" x 7 1/4".
