It was great to be able to reintroduce Richard Black, as well as his agent at large Dave Old. White Gold is a great follow-on book from Scars of the Leopard in my African series. As I do with all my writing, I had an absolute blast writing White Gold; I hope you have as much enjoyment reading it too. I hope the reader will forgive me for any liberties I have taken with the construction of this story. In particular I refer to the exposé of the Indonesian Ambassador to Tanzania, Joesoef Hussein, and his involvement with ivory poaching. The discovery of his involvement was in fact at the beginning of 1989, and not years later as indicated in this text. Also, I would like to apologize to the owner of Tat Hing Trading in Hong Kong. The company and owner's name were subtly changed, but he would recognize the comparison. His assassination was fictitious and included for the narration of the story only. Whether or not he is still involved in international ivory poaching and smuggling is unknown to the author. I hope these discrepancies have not impeded your enjoyment of this novel. However, I would like to add as near as my research was able to ascertain the places, ivory prices and weights, the number of elephants killed and the manner of their slaughter are all based on fact. The illegal trade of ivory is a real problem, but thankfully one that is being seriously addressed by the EIA, WWF and many other dedicated organizations around the world.
