Missionary Dr. Robert Bowers and his wife, Marion, went to Bangladesh in 2004 to meet an urgent need for a surgeon at LAMB Hospital in the northwest part of the country. Their original plan to stay for two years was repeatedly extended, as there was no replacement. This book allows one to read Dr. Bowers' personal letters to family back home describing his very challenging surgical experiences, his cultural observations and the exciting spiritual opportunities present during his and Marion's eight years in Bangladesh -- with a very unexpected event on their final return. Since first joining SIM (an interdenominational mission organization) in 1966, Bob and Marion Bowers have worked in Liberia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Albania and most recently in Bangladesh. As a surgeon, Bob's involvement has been in the medical field while Marion's work has been in the educational and music areas. They are currently retired and living in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. A prior publication, "With Dr. Bob in Ethiopia," tells about their time in Ethiopia.
