Join me on a journey throughout Israel and the West Bank narrated in graffiti–the most uncensored expression of how people in this war-trodden region interact with their reality. In an environment defined by the conflict, graffiti is an art of necessity. It is one of the few ways that individuals can personalize their surroundings, which are otherwise dictated by war, violence, and a struggle of national and territorial identity. My goal in Words & Walls is not to provide an informational account of the conflict. The aim is to go deeper into the emotions, frustrations, and hopes of both peoples through their rawest and most spontaneous form of visual expression. I invite you to roam through the daunting alleyways of Palestinian refugee camps, forbidden Israeli towns bordering the Gaza Strip, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Hebron, and other cites, to discover two peoples trying to make sense of their tangled world through graffiti, both intimate and epic. Adam G. Heffez is currently a MBA Candidate at Stanford Graduate School of Business.  He graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University with a degree in International Politics and Development. During his studies, he served as the assistant program director of Hands of Peace, an Israeli-Palestinian conflict resolution program, where he acquired a passion for diplomacy. Heffez studied Hebrew at Middlebury College through a Kathryn Davis Fellowship for Peace and volunteered as an aid worker for Iraqi refugees while living in Amman, Jordan. He is proficient in Arabic, Hebrew, French, Spanish, and English. He wrote Words & Walls as a 2011-2012 Dorot Fellow, a year-long scholarship for community leaders in the Middle East.
