This is Jim “Lawman” Law’s fourth book in a Pacific War series. It features the adventures of Lieutenant Lyle L. Littleton during the outbreak of World War II. Lyle gains his Ensign commission in the ninety-day V-7 program and applies for submarine training. Commander Law provides insights on submarine training, boat engineering features, and operational procedures. He highlights problems and corrections to the Mark 14 torpedo in 1942. In addition, Law explains the challenges faced by Admiral Chester Nimitz in Hawaii and General Douglas MacArthur in Australia. Encouraged by the allied results in the Coral Sea and Midway Island battles, the two four-stars halted the Japanese expansion at Guadalcanal and southeast New Guinea. Characters from previous books are included in this volume. Captain Harry “Rats” Mueller, USMC (World War II Transport Pilot), CDR David A. Pelham, USN (World War II Destroyer Sailor), and LT Wilbur O. Wright, USNR (World War II PT Boat Captain) fought for their lives when the war’s outcome was uncertain. The Lawman makes WWII history interesting by placing his characters in and around the combat action. Undoubtedly, he draws from 24 years in the Navy and seven aircraft carrier cruises to the Far East and the Persian Gulf.
