Hiding behind the badge. That's how David A. Robinson, Esq., describes the way police departments in America rationalize their misconduct. And it's pervasive. The tragic deaths of innocent civilians have sparked national debate about police brutality and racial injustice in our society. With his unique perspective first as a cop, now as an attorney, Robinson shines a spotlight into a dark and controversial corner of Blue Culture and makes a demand for greater accountability from those whose job it is to protect and serve. David A. Robinson, Esq., operates his law firm, Robinson & Associates Inc., in the Detroit suburb of Southfield. Specializing in police misconduct litigation, Robinson has handled hundreds of matters involving wrongful arrests and wrongful deaths at the hands of police officers during his 33-year career as an attorney. He has obtained million dollar-plus settlements and verdicts in non-lethal police chase, accident and shooting cases. Robinson has also successfully litigated several cases involving deaths of pretrial detainees in Detroit jails. Early in his adult life, Robinson worked for the Detroit Police Department (DPD), both as an officer and as an attorney. During his time with the DPD, he defended officers in civil litigation matters and taught the legal section of recruit training at the Detroit Metropolitan Police Academy. He also held a teaching position with the Wayne State University Criminal Justice Department. Robinson sits on the executive board of the Legal Redress Committee for the NAACP. He is a former member of the Michigan Association of Justice (MAJ) and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG). Previously, he served on the MAJ and NLG executive boards. He has also lectured on police misconduct at seminars sponsored by Lorman Education Services, Professional Education Systems Institute, MAJ, NLG and National Police Accountability Project. A 1979 graduate of Wayne State University, Robinson received his Juris Doctor degree from Detroit College of Law in 1985.
