With danger in every encounter, theirs is a quest like no other, taking readers to new heights of adventure and imagination. So hold on tight and get ready to experience Zero Gravity ! “ Zero Gravity is The Hunger Games with twice the humor and heart as well as a mind-bending premise. It’s an adventure fantasy that lifts off with all cylinders blazing and never lets up. Hang on for a wild read!” – Timothy Hillmer, author of Ravenhill “ Zero Gravity is an intriguing tale, expertly told. Enjoy!" - Rodman Philbrick , author of Freak the Mighty Gr 5–8—Another volume in the end-of-the-world dystopian genre that sinks below the level of similar titles, such as The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner. The Earth's gravity is weakening. This is causing major problems. The United States has declared a state of emergency—for the first time, people who weigh less are at risk of floating away. Will has always been teased about being overweight, but it may just become an advantage. When he hears about a secret Ark to save mankind, he is determined to make it to the ship and help his family find safety. His journey is filled with adventure, tragedy, and a twist that changes everything. There is a lot of humor and heart in this tale, but it may not find a wide audience beyond very avid readers. The chapters are short and there is a lot of action, but it does not stand out among the other books in the genre. Those who are not old enough to read Suzanne Collins's and James Dashner's series may find some enjoyment here. VERDICT With so many dystopian novels to choose from, this is one to skip.—Patrick Tierney, Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary School, Providence " Zero Gravity is an intriguing tale, expertly told. Enjoy!" - Rodman Philbrick, author of Freak the Mighty "In the not-so-distant future, the moon is moving away from the earth, and gravity is losing its grip on the planet. Zero Gravity is a sharp, speculative novel that follows a family’s journey to safety as the laws of nature, one by one, cease to apply. Adam Weaver is “a target that no one could miss.” When reports of zero-gravity pockets start cropping up, his classmates congratulate him on already being too fat to float away. Adam’s weight is less of an asset than his quick thinking. As zero-gravity conditions spread, he and his family must find a way to keep their feet on the ground. Thanks to a ham-radio connection, the Weavers hear about a conspiracy theory: that NASA has built a zero-gravity ark, an office build- ing that is designed to float away when zero gravity reaches totality. “Arkies,” as they’re called, believe that the NASA vessel is close to capacity. The Weavers intend to be on it when it sails. Their adventure is fabulous, a cotton-candy Mad Max-infused quest. From snack-food- crazed alligators to a weather cult wearing tin-foil helmets, Zero Gravity is packed with incredible, hilarious imagery, characters, and landscapes. As the apocalypse creeps slowly on, the rules of society cease to apply. Zoo animals roam free, along with crazed televangelists and even some of the bullies from Adam’s school. Adam is a strong main character who grounds the plot in reality. His struggle to contend with the changes in his family and in himself are mir- rored in the topsy-turvy world around him. The zero-gravity crisis alludes to natural disasters that come from climate change, but the novel’s deeper themes are self-discovery and finding balance. Zero Gravity is author Tom LaMarr’s first YA novel, and hopefully not his last. This humorous, vivid novel is fast-paced, smart, and surreal— perfect for floating the hours away." - Hannah Holman, Foreward Reviews
