In 1974, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced that over a dozen organized crime families had moved into Palm Beach County from the Northeast. None of the local television stations reported it. Jacob Alexander Gardner has seen just about everything. As a ten-year old he witnessed a gruesome murder in a corner newspaper store in Manhattan. As a television news shooter, he’s spent years filming conflicts in Vietnam and the Mid-East. In New York he’s chased the bad guys all over town, and now he’s burned out. Leaving his estranged wife, he suddenly packs up in the middle of the night to get away from it all. He heads to Key West, for some well-deserved rest and umbrella drinks. While driving through West Palm Beach on I-95, he finds himself caught in the final moments of a high speed car chase that culminates in a police shootout. Instinctively, he has filmed it all, and none of the local TV affiliates have it. They want his footage. Hired to fill in temporarily at a West Palm Beach station, he soon settles in to a new routine as a local news shooter. But then one night while filming a sports feature at the local Jai Alai fronton, he sees someone from his past and his whole world careens out of control as he becomes implicated in mob-related activities. f/stop is look back at South Florida in the mid-1970s, just as millions of new residents were pouring in from the north, seeking a better, quieter life. What they often found was neighbors from back home. Frank Eberling was a South Florida Television News cameraman for ten years. He filmed over 3,000 stories, some of which are recreated in this novel. He went on to become an Emmy® Award-winning documentary producer for over forty-four years. Originally from New City, New York, he lives in Florida.
